I managed to give my Macbook Pro (2012) a new lease of life a month ago – I managed to make it freeze whilst going through my SFM courses, leaving it on overnight, so I took the plunge and invested 30 euros in some more TimeTec RAM (8GB). Easy to install but the impact wasn’t noticeable, to be honest. So then I invested about 60 euros in an SSD from Kingston (500GB) and a SATA-USB cable – that was the best thing I have done for the Macbook! After fumbling around a little bit trying to install the OS on the new disk, I went for the old HDD to the new SDD transfer option. It took a good few hours, but the result was perfection. (Installing from time capsule was a waste of time….tried twice, then gave up!). Now I have my restored iPhoto library and still over 100GB of free space, and a 30-second load-up time. Happy days!
